5.14 Thanks Steve for the donation today, helping us get a little further to our 900 dollar quarterly goal. I sincerely can't do this work without our listener's support, so I appreciate it very, very much.
By the way I've decided to keep blogging on the main page but the archives will be on this blog page. I'll also put the newest podcasts on the main page but the rest will be on our Mixcloud page as archived material.
If we play your music already and if you'd like to create a little hour long special.... maybe you and a band member chatting, nothing fancy, talking about your latest projects, tours, etc... I'll add the music tracks and edit it down if you send it to me on mp3, and make a little show out of it. I'm thinking this would be WAY more interesting and entertaining than me asking dumb questions like "so, um, how did you get your name and who did you listen to most growing up?" I'm kind of bored with those things and I'm not good at them anyway. I'd rather hear the artist as unfiltered as possible. You don't have to go to a studio to do this. In fact, these days, natural ambiance is better than so-called squeaky clean and polished. With iPhones and stuff you can do it in a park if you want to. Birds are ok. Keep it loose and fun, we'll see what we can do with it and make it a special. I'm hoping to get Sarah Shook and the Disarmers to do one. Also Birds of Chicago. We'll see what their managers have to say.
5.8.18 - Ok, hey, welcome to this new blog page. Glad you found us. Next we'll be working on a page strictly for the Podcasts. Meantime you can find them all - and warts & all - at Mixcloud.com/Jayson-Tanner - if you want to comment on stuff, I put most of the things we write on the blog on our Facebook page. Facebook.com/wreckingballradio
5.7.18 Starting up the new page just for the blog here, as the main page was getting to be monstrous and, on some systems, difficult to load. I'll have a 3rd page just for podcasts, too. Meanwhile, let me include the previous posts here as a kind of recent archive.
5.7 - Thanks Ray for the donation today. bringing us closer to our Springtime goal of $900.00 - only $430 to go! I'm very austere with this stream. It'd be nice if I could hire an interviewer and have a real studio and all that stuff but to keep the expenses as low as possible, things have to be the way they are for now. Unless we get some sort of "Silent Partner" who'd like the station to stay true to what we do and at the same time expand into better territories. You may have heard someone recently left a non commercial Public station a ton of money in their will. I won't hold my breath on that one but I can dream.
5.2 Thanks Phyllis B. for the ten spot. 480 to go to reach our Spring fundraising goal!
4.29 - Thanks Morgan for your donation today. Bringing us closer to our Spring Fund Drive goal of 900 dollars - with 490 to go. All this is helping to pay for licensing fees so that we're playing the music legally and our artists get paid. Also for system upgrades, web and stream hosting services. Internet fees. And I spend a lot of $$ on music itself as most of the major labels and some of the indies refuse to service Internet stations for some reason. They're not down with new media yet.
Remember a couple years ago when they did away with the UHF band for television? What if this happens to AM & FM? Question for you: if your local radio stations had to take down their old towers and could only be accessed on the internet, what would make you listen to them? Or, what would drive you away from them? Just curious. No wrong answers.
4.15 - Thanks to Daniel for his 25.00 donation today. Only 515.00 to go in order to make our quarterly goal of 900.00. The donation to beat so far is 100 as John from NZ is ahead in our contest giveaway. He's sent in two 50.00 donations this quarter so he's in the lead. I feel like an auctioneer now, do we hear 125?
4.23 - Remember, details about our Spring Fund Drive and Contest are below here in this blog area. To some it up I'm putting together a package of 5 or 6 CDs I'll be shipping out to whoever donates the most to this project this quarter. A few of them are autographed and some I have no desire at all to part with, so they're special to me. I think they'll be special to you, too. Meanwhile, here's a new Mixcloud Mixtape for you, hot off the presses so you can put it in your ears. Enjoy!
4.17 - I had a fun idea. If you've bought CDs or Vinyl based on hearing a song or an artist for the first time here on WreckingBallRadio.NET - send in a selfie with your discoveries and I'll post them here. I mainly wanna do this to show record industry types that we may have a small audience but I know you're dedicated music lovers and we do make a difference in your buying habits. You don't have to be in the pic if you don't wanna be. It can just be a pick of your music haul. Up to you.
4.17 - Thanks to Ken and Mark this morning for donations. That's very encouraging. Makes me think we're doing something right when that happens! Thank you both. Still $540 to go to reach our goal this quarter. Think we can do it?
4.16 - and thanks to Paul from SC, USA today for his donation! Thanks very much, my friend.
4.16 - Maintenance Alert: This Friday Night/Saturday Morning 1am we may (may) be off the air for a couple hours due to maintenance at our streaming service's HQ.
4.16 - the Wrecking Ball Radio Bidding War has Begun! We talked about the promotional prize package we're putting together, 6 CDs from WreckingBallRadio.NET featured artists, CDs any WreckingBallRadio.NET listener would be happy to have in their personal collection. Whoever donates the most in the Spring Quarter will win them all.
At this writing the highest donation this quarter is from John with two $50.00 donations, So the donation to beat, right now is $100.00. John should get extra points on this since he donated before there was a contest but he's entered now, whether he knows it or not!
One of these CDs is one I hate to part with for sentimental reasons, and it's my own personal copy, but I wanted to sweeten the pot with something personal. It's a signed copy of Rosanne Cash's CD from a few years' ago called "The List", which is a compilation of cover songs Johnny Cash encouraged her to record. This one alone would possibly bring in a lot of money if I put it on Ebay or something but I'm not going to do that. It'll be included in this promotion package, along with 5 more great albums.
In previous quarters our top donors have given up to $400.00 at a time. This quarter's a little slow right now but it tends to pick up as the quarter winds down.
4.14 - Thanks to Wiliam for his donation this weekend. Thanks for helping to keep WreckingBallRadio.NET alive and well for the foreseeable future. Our Spring Fund Drive continues. Still needed to reach our goal this quarter: $595.00. And we're putting together a package of CDs - some of them autographed - which will go to the top donor this quarter. If you like WreckingBallRadio.NET you're sure to like the music I've picked out for your CD collection!
4.6.18 - Thanks to John in NZ for the donation this weekend! Much appreciated, sir! Only 630 to go for the fund drive this Spring!
4.5.18 - We are proudly out of step with popular music trends and the supposed tried and true radio methods which got locked into place about 40 years ago. Thanks for being an open-minded listener - and thanks for helping us out whenever possible. When there are no donations, I can't know for sure if you're still interested. And if you're not, why bother? Thankfully we tend to meet our goals! Our Spring Fund Drive is happening right now. I'm hoping to put some packages together of various CDs to our top donors, some of them autographed by the artists for you.
4.3.18 - Thanks to David for donating today! 680 to go for the fund drive this Spring! Much appreciated, folks. Thanks for helping me keep WreckingBallRadio.NET on the air!
4.2.18 - Great feedback on our latest podcast with all the live tracks (below). Glad you liked it. Had fun making it for you. And thanks to Phyllis for her monthly donation. Bringing us ever closer to our quarterly goal of a mere $900.00. Only $695.00 to go.
3.28.18 Thanks to Steve and John today for donations. 705.00 to go for our Spring Fund Drive. I appreciate you all very much. Glad you like the music!
3.25 Sunday Night - Thanks to Ted over the weekend for his contribution to the station. Very much appreciated, as always! Now that Spring is finally here, somewhere in the snow, our Spring Fund Drive begins in full force. Anything you can do to help us reach our goal this quarter will be appreciated. Since we got an early start on it, only 739.00 to go. Can't do it without you, of course. And really, the joint effort seems logical. I can't know if the station is valuable to you without the donations. So without them, why bother? Does that make sense?
3.17 - For those who say this can't be a blog because there's no place to respond to the messages I post, I invite you to join our Facebook page: facebook.com/wreckingballradio.net where I post virtually the same blog notices, along with lots of cool articles about the musicians we feature.
3.16 - I'm going to have to go back to doing my show in Podcast form only. I like doing the show for the stream but I can't seem to work in the time to do both. And I also enjoy podcasting. The stream will continue on and you'll hear me on promos and stuff. But my show, after this weekend, will be strictly Podcast for now. mixcloud.com/jayson-tanner
3.16 - Thanks to Ruth for her monthly donation/support coming in today, very much appreciated, Ruth! Total 157 raised. 743 to go for our Spring Fund Drive. Don't forget: Replays of shows of mine from earlier in the week, Saturday and Sunday noon Eastern. See you there. Oh, wait, hear you there. No, that's not right. You'll hear me there. Better. Peace.
3.14 - Thanks to Sheldon for the donation today. Brings our Spring Fund Drive total up to $152 with $748 to go, so we can make it thru til at least summer. As you probably know by now, we go quarter by quarter, sometimes week to week.
Jayson's Blog 3.10 and a big thank you to listeners Ted and Steve for donations today! Cheers! Only 765 to go in order to meet our 900 quarterly goal.
Jayson's Blog 3.9 Some of my inspirations have retired. David Dye from World Cafe and Mike Marrone from SXM's The Loft. I feel like I'm one of the last ones standing, even though no one's heard of me.
Blog 3.7 - yes, it WOULD be nice to have a surplus but every bit of money coming in from listeners, and augmented by my own credit cards, goes directly into programming expenses. Mainly for licensing fees. Radio ain't cheap. It can be, but it'd only be cheap if you were using a radio stream as a Ham Radio, never playing music, and just sat there and yacked at people all day & night. Me? i'm all about the music.
Blog 3.6 Thanks to William for contributing today! You're all helping to get the Spring Fund Drive off to a great start! 105 Collected so far, Only 790 to go and then we can shut up about it for a while! You're all appreciated very much. Peace.
Blog 3.5 Thanks to Bernie and Maury for today's donations! Up to 70 already for a good jump on the Spring Fund Drive. 830 to go!
Blog 3.3 And thanks to Phyllis, for getting the Spring Fund Drive going. only 890 to go!
One of our Top Featured albums right now from Christa Wells. She's signed a copy of her new CD which will be included in our Spring Fund Drive contest package. If you don't know her yet, get to know her. Amazing talent and supercool on Twitter, too. Our featured tracks right now, title track "Velveteen" - which is a wonderful antidote to all those poor-me-i-got-dumped songs. Those have their place but Velveteen is more healing and less pity party. The other one on here I personally really love is "Holy Ground" ... which we featured on one of our most recent podcasts. Spiritual without being preachy or condescending... a truly wonderful song.
Artist Kerri Powers also sent in an autographed CD for our Spring Fund Drive & Contest. She has a devastating cover of Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home" on here. If I have to classify her, I'd say she has elements of blues, folk and rock and probably some other things. Like wreckingballradio.net, she's many things in one package. A perfect artist for our station. Her song "Mine the River" also gets a lot of airplay with us. Plus, she's another really nice person to get to know thru Social Media. If you don't know her music yet, you haven't been listening to us!
Here's another one I hate to part with. I've had it for several years now but decided I'd make the sacrifice and let one of our listeners enjoy my copy of Rosanne Cash's The List - an album of songs her father suggested she should cover. And it's autographed. I have a few more in the package which is kind of a mystery packet of CDs for whoever donates the most this quarter (Spring). A few of you have been gracious enough to tell me that you'll keep donating whether there's a contest or not. Some donate 10 bux a month and some donate 400 a quarter... I don't have a set donation price. I know incomes vary and expenses vary from person to person. If you can't donate anything I understand but do what you can to share the station with as many folks as possible, without spamming, of course. But friends who tell you they're bored with the radio - might like wreckingballradio.net instead. Or not. We're not for everyone. But we're for you.
